Field Trainings.

After the training of trainers in Mukono ARDC, the regional coordinators and extension workers have begun to reach out to farmers to train them in the growing and harvesting of vanilla in order to ensure quality and increased supply.

Training of Trainers workshop in Mukono ARDC.

Vanex TrainingVanex with the sponsorship of Agricultural Productivity Enhancement Program & Population Services International-Uganda organized a workshop which took place in Mukono ARDC from 31st January 2005 to 4th February 2005. It was attended by the 8 recruited coordinators, the 60 extension workers, and participants from NAADS, individual farmers and vanilla exporters.

Training of Trainers in Mukono ARDCThe participants were trained on the management of vanilla and mostly the ensuring of quality. They were also given the task of encouraging and training more people to grow vanilla in order to increase its production. This was carried out by representatives from VANEX & APEP.

As part of the workshop, representatives from PSI-Uganda also sensitized the participants about hiv/aids and how to counsel those that have contracted it.

Radio Programs

As way of reaching out to as many farmers, VANEX has started up three radio programs in the different regions of Uganda. Programmes are on Sundays. Farmers can now learn about vanilla and VANEX programs on radio.

  • Eastern region tune in to KIIRA fm from 8.00pm – 9.00pm,
  • Central region tune in to CBS fm from 5.50pm – 6.10pm;
  • Western region tune in to VOT from 1.00pm – 1.30pm.

These programs are presented by the respective VANEX coordinators in those areas with the guidance of the field director.
